ATTENTION READERS AND FANS!!!!!!  I’M MOVING!!!!!

Okay, I know I did this to you about a year ago, but times are tough and I can’t afford to keep this blog going and paying for the domain name.  Soooo…I’m moving once again.

You can find me here: http://sarahbarberdesign.blogspot.com

I hope you can follow me and it’s not too much of an inconvenience.  I will be able to do a lot more also on Blogger (as they allow for tweaking and such for free!)  Thank you for putting up with me and I hope to keep entertaining you on the net.

Illustration

28 08 2009

Well, my illustration class has come to a close and I’m proud to report that I received a 100% on my final project and an A in the course.  I’m so excited to be taking Digital Photography next term (which starts in a few days!).  I’m waiting patiently for my new laptop, as I’m kind of at a stand still in designing till I get my paws on that new system.  But, I’ve managed to do a little scrapbooking.  Of course I want to share!  So below are my original drawing of Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood, my final project, and my new LO of my handsome son, Dylan.  TFL!

Back to Basics

24 08 2009

So as my vacation wears on, I’m finding myself going back to basics.  If y’all don’t follow me on Facebook, you don’t know that last week was horrendous.  My laptop went South, my cell phone stopped working, I hit a deer, and then my glasses broke!  I know, insane!  Anyway, as I wait patiently for my replacement laptop, I’m forced to play and work on my old desktop.  It’s slower than slow and doesn’t have any real good programs that can work on it except my faithful and trusty old Photoshop Elements.  This is the program I used to get my start in designing.  I really can’t believe I ever did what I did with only this program.

Well, being forced back into old technology, I decided to make the most of it, and started looking through my old design folders.  I actually created a new kit, amid the swearing and hair-pulling!  It includes some old elements made new, some stuff I never thought would see the light of day, and some very basic papers.  I’m kind of proud that I’m not letting the lack of good programming keep me down.  So out of this mess has come my new kit, which unfortunately is NOT available yet.  (More techno problems.)  But, I thought I’d give y’all a sneek peek!  Take a gander and let me know what you think!

Also, I’ve managed to relax and scrap a bit.  Still inspired by music (I think I’m on to something here) I did another LO with lyrics by Nickleback, using my new kit and some other fabulous new goodies available at Digiridoo.  This LO actually is my submission for the August Color Challenge over at Digiridoo.  It’s not too late to join us in our monthly challenges for fab freebies!

Amazing Dream

15 08 2009

Do you ever have one of those moments when something happens and you just have to scrap about it?  Write it down, document it, scrap it now!?  That happened to me last night.  My darling little girl was put to bed at about 8pm.  I was in a lot of pain, so I was laying down trying in vain to feel better.  At about 9:30pm, she comes hesitantly into my room.  Climbs up into bed with me, and proceeds to start chattering away.  She was trying to make me feel better.  We talked about everything and nothing.  It was so sweet.  We had an entire conversation.  It reminded me so much of what I used to do, and still do, to my Mom.  I still go visit my mom and climb into bed with her and start chattering away.  I had to scrapbook this.  My little girl is special and I want to share it.  Kids are absolutely amazing.

Journal Entry: In what I hope will be the first of many, you came in my room tonight to hang out and talk.  We actually had a conversation.  The subject didn’t matter, it was the closeness I felt with you.  The same closeness I feel with my mother when I curl up on her bed to talk.  You told me all about your dreams and what you wanted for your birthday.  Your happy chatter was a gift.  Thank you.

If you’re a fan of We are {Storytellers}, hurry and get your shopping done this weekend.  The store is closing Sunday forever!  *sniff* I’m a little upset by this; they are one of my favorite digital shops.

The Pain of Your First Love

12 08 2009

I did another LO for the Book of Me challenge because it was so inspiring this month, I got several ideas.  This LO is about a son that means a lot to me and still brings back pain and memories every time I hear it.  It’s amazing what the power of a song can do.

Inspired by Metallica

11 08 2009

The new Book of Me challenge is up at Digiridoo Scraps and man, it brought me out of my scrapping slump!  I’ve got so many ideas, so, I’m gonna create a mini album.  This is the first of a few.  The challenge is to scrap about music that moves you, or you’ve listened to in your life, or how it has effected you.  I’m obsessed with Metallica and I’ve shown my love below.  TFL!

Journal Entry: I’ll never forget the first time I heard Metallica; those grungy guitars, James Hetfield’s ragged voice, the base guitar sent from the rock gods, the drums that knocked you out, and those guitar solos that were as soulful as they were hard core, they stole my soul and made me theirs forever.  I was 13 years old when the Black Album came out, and I never looked back.  These four men changed who I became and helped mold me into the person I am today.  I can’t explain what it is to experience their music.  One of the best memories of my life was when I went to see them live in New York City.  Their music has moved me and rocked me and I don’t see that ever changing.  Metallica is legendary.

Here are some of the photos I took for this scrap:

A Gift for a Friend…

2 08 2009

Tarrah’s sitter, Vicki, is the sweetest woman.  She helped me come up with the strength to overcome an obstacle I’ve been trying to deal with for a while now.  She’s also become a huge part of my daughter’s life.  She’s an amazing woman who is an inspiration to all women.  I’ve got some picture’s she’s given me of her and her kids and I told her I would scrap them for her.  Here’s the first of them, her son Nathaniel, the sweetest kid you will ever meet.  Thank you Vicki!
